Oral Cancer Screening

It is an examination performed by a dentist to look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in your mouth. The goal is to identify mouth cancer early. If detected early, the cancer is easiest to remove and most likely to be cured. During every routine dental visit, we perform examinations of your mouth to screen for oral cancer. These examinations are mostly non-invasive. Some patients may need additional tests to aid in identifying areas of abnormal cells in your mouth.

People with a high risk of oral cancer include:

1)Tobacco use of any kind, including cigarettes, chewing tobacco and snuff

2)Heavy alcohol use

3)Previous oral cancer diagnosis

4)History of significant sun exposure, which increases the risk of lip cancer

The number of people diagnosed with mouth and throat cancers has been rising over the last several years. So, regular oral cancer screening is highly recommended specially for people under high risk as mentioned above.
